Londesborough Park Cricket Club enjoyed a rare double last Saturday as
both senior teams enjoyed victories, resulting in the 1st XI
nudging towards mid-table security and the 2nd XI increasing
their lead at the top of division 6.
Beverley were the visitors to the Park and found Big Bird on fine
'harvest' form as he lead the innings from the front with his best knock
of the season, despite desperate attempts to run himself out and some
greasy palms in the outfield. He was supported by several double figure
contributions but only Callum Robertson reached the twenties as young
spinner Jamie Roe claimed the bowling honours with 5-57, courtesy of one
or two injudicious shots. Roe was supported by senior pro Pete Parnaby
with 3-63. Big Bird's wicket was the 7th to fall as the
steam finally ran out in a fine knock of 76 as the Britcom sponsored
Park totalled 189-9, a little shy of par, with Dazzler Moody finishing
unbeaten on15.
Dazzler and the 'Ginger One' kept the visitors' response at 2 an over
with a controlled display, the former picking up the wicket of skipper
Tim Smith for 9. Charlie Rook then turned to his own youngsters as Jack
Sowersby and Stephen Croft bowled in tandem. From the relative comfort
of 64-1 Beverley were sent reeling as the spin and swing duo picked off
the top and middle order, hitting the sticks at regular intervals,
reducing the visitors to 117-7. Big Bird's fine diving stop in the
covers (what was he doing there?) resulted in a run out and Mark
Tissiman returned to the attack with two quick wickets to put Beverley
out of their misery, all back in the sheds for 128.
A
sound team performance and a valuable 30 points with a trip to York
looming this weekend. Thanks to match ball sponsor the Red Lion.
