The
Britcom sponsored Park 1st XI came mighty close to securing
their first victory of the season at Bolton Percy but the run chase ran
out of steam at the death to leave them just 6 runs short.
Set
a target of 217 the little and large combo of youngster Greg Drewery and
Neil Stephenson set off briskly before Greg was bowled for 11. Skipper
Charlie Rook, now back to his best form, paired up with Stephenson to
advance the score to 97 when the latter was trapped LBW for 34. Another
sound partnership of 62 between Rook and Sam Medley (28) had the Park
well set and 13 from James Beevers aided the cause before he was run out
by a direct throw. The required equation was 33 from 5 overs with 6
wickets in hand. 16 runs from the next 2 overs put The Park in the
driving seat but the next was a wicket maiden, not quite what the doctor
had ordered. Despite his best efforts Charlie's superb knock came to an
end on 102 in the final over, leaving the Park high and dry on 211-7.
The
home side's score of 216-7 was dominated by the hard hitting of Musgrave
(72) supported by Danny White with 39 and four other contributions in
the 20s. Dazzler Moody continued his encouraging form with 2 further
wickets. Sam Medley also picked up a brace but the Park, having fought
back to avoid a possible 250 score, will look at the 43rd and
44th overs in which a total of 30 runs were conceded and
consider what might have been.
However another satisfying performance with a victory surely in the
offing, hopefully against strugglers Dringhouses this weekend. The
match ball was kindly sponsored by Hagstons Butchers.
