Not
a particularly good day at the office for Londesborough Park's 1st
XI as they entertained high fliers Bolton Percy last Saturday.
With
experienced batsmen Big Bird and Charlie Rook playing with their
combines and Neil Stephenson still absent through injury, the task
facing stand in skipper Rich Foster was never going to be easy.
Consequently he elected to field and must have been lifted by his
dismissal of Green in the 2nd over. However the next 'lift'
failed to materialize for the best part of 36 overs as, despite
initially maintaining a manageable run rate, the Park's bowling attack
could not prevent Rigby and Malloch posted a 2nd wicket
partnership of 197. The Ginger One finally made a breakthrough with a
caught and bowled dismissal of Malloch for 94 and Dazzler Moody's second
spell of 3 overs proved fruitful as he claimed 4-16 including Rigby's
eventual demise for 105.
Chasing a victory target of 255, the Britcom sponsored Park's response
had little answer to the bowling of Danny White who claimed 5-15 off 11
overs. Prospects were looking decidedly bleak at 26-6 as only Callum
Robertson with 29 offered any meaningful resistance. A cameo 13 from
Stephen Croft delayed the inevitable but Bolton Percy's attack proved
too strong as the game concluded with the Park dismissed for a
disappointing 87.
The
standard of cricket in division 2 is proving to be a steep learning
curve for the Park's youngsters but hopefully it will stand them in good
stead for the future. The 1st XI now has 4 fixtures in which
to secure 2nd division status, 3 against teams below or just
above them, starting with a trip to Dringhouses this Saturday. The Half
Moon kindly sponsored last week's match ball.
Bolton Percy 1st XI 254-6 (J Rigby 105, T Malloch 94, D Moody
4-52) Londesborough Park 1st XI 87 (C Robertson 29, D White
