Wins
for the Park's 1st and 2nd XIs on the same weekend
are like red London buses – you wait ages for one then two come along at
the same time. So it was last Saturday when both teams recorded
victories in differing circumstances.
At
Clifton Park the absence of regular openers Big Bird and Neil Stephenson
resulted in a new and youthful replacement pairing of Greg Drewery and
Callum Robertson, the skipper's decision being fully vindicated as a
first wicket stand of 63 placed the Park in a strong position after 20
overs. The loss of Robertson (25) followed by Messrs Rook, Sam Medley
and Beevers took the shine off the early exchanges, reducing the score
to 94-4. Drewery posted a half century before Richard Lindsay claimed
his 4th wicket , swiftly followed by his 5th
courtesy of Tom Medley's dismissal. Lower order defiance from Ian
Hodson (16) and Stephen Croft (13) added a degree of respectability but
an all out total of 172 probably didn't have the York batsmen quaking in
their boots, despite the slowness of the wicket
'Mr
consistent' Dazzler Moody's second ball of the York innings was a good
one because it bowled Horseman for a duck. Dazzler continued to make
inroads, cleaning up Sam Beales and Tom Clark (35). A 4th
wicket partnership of 20 was curtailed by The Ginger One (3-22) who
bowled off spin in tandem with Stephen Croft (3-40). They made the most
of the turning track, ripping out the middle order as new recruit behind
the stumps Greg Drewery completing a good day with 4 catches, reducing
the hosts to 77 for 9. Stubborn resistance from 10 and Jack in the form
of Hall and Steve Beales (25) prolonged the action until Dazzler
increased his tally to 4, leaving promotional hopefuls York slightly
embarrassed on 114 all out.
Another important win for the Britcom sponsored 1st XI who
head a cluster of 5 teams hoping to avoid the drop and who will be
hoping to make it 3 on the bounce when they travel to bottom of the pile
Osbaldwick this weekend. The York match ball was kindly sponsored by Mr
& Mrs Appleyard.
