They
say that everything comes to those that wait and the patience of
Londesborough Park 1st XI's players and supporters was
finally rewarded last Saturday with a first victory of the season, and a
convincing one at that.
Playing host to the stongest team in the division (Dringhouses are
holding up all the other teams at the foot of the table) the morning's
inclement weather conditions threatened to put the contest in doubt.
However just 2 overs were lost as the Britcom sponsored Park were
invited to take first knock. Big Bird struck the first 7 runs but
failed to pick up a delivery from Owen and duly returned to the sheds.
Neil Stephenson and Charlie Rook continued their recent good form,
laying the foundations with a partnership of 111 before the keeper
intervened, stumping Neil for 45. Rook and Sam Medley kept the board
ticking nicely, adding a further 27 until the skipper's demise with 73
to his name. Veteran Mick Kenyon gained some reward for his bowling
stint with 4 wickets, including Medley for 42, as the Park's innings was
curtailed on a respectable 199-6.
Dazzler Moody didn't find the conditions to his liking so Rich Foster
and the 'Ginger One' were employed to provide an all out seam attack.
Fossy and Greg Drewery combined to make the first breakthrough and Mark
Tissiman struck the second blow with the score on 39. A quite
remarkable one handed diving catch by the 'ever alert and nimble'
Stephenson had everybody on the ground stunned, not least Neil himself
as Fossy picked up his second wicket, swiftly followed by his third
courtesy of Blaster's safe hands behind the sticks. Big Bird showed his
close in catching prowess to dismiss Chris 'DJ' Evans off Tissiman's 5th
over to reduce the visitors to 57-5 and his next over saw the visitors
lose their 6th wicket. A mini revival partnership of 24 was
arrested by Tissiman with two further wicket's in consecutive balls and
the hat trick ball yorker was just dug out. Fossy then trapped Storr
LBW and it was left to the 'Ginger One' to complete matters as Shiers'
brave resistance was ended by Dazzler's catch at square leg.
A
much needed triumph for the Park with Tissiman (6-34) and Foster (4-36)
sharing the bowling honours. The win sees the Park shoot up to 8th
in the division with a trip to Ripon being next up. Thanks to match
ball sponsor The Pet Shop.
