An
improved performance from Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park's 1st
XI failed to produce the desired result as they made their home bow
against Malton and Old Malton last Saturday.
The
Park produced a respectable first innings total of 199 for 5, despite a
serious hiccup along the way. Openers Big Bird and Neil Stephenson laid
the foundation with a useful partnership of 48 before Big Bird's castle
was disturbed by Linsley having accumulated 22. Skipper Charlie Rook
became Linsley's 2nd victim before Sam Medley and Stephenson
took control. A score of 131 with 15 overs remaining had the large
crowd debating a significant 200 plus total. Cue a classic
Londesborough Park collapse of old! Following Stephenson's departure
for a healthy 52, four further wickets fell for the addition of just 8
runs including Medley, one short of his half century. Enter 'The Ginger
One' and Blaster who used all their experience to steady the ship and
fulfill the allotted 45 overs without further alarm, Tissiman undefeated
on 47 and Blaster 17.
An
early wicket for Dazzler in a tidy 11 over spell raised the spirits
before Linsley offered a relatively simple catch which was spilled, the
ramifications of which were to haunt the Park for the rest of the
visitors' innings. Wickets for Tom Sowersby, who bowled economically,
and Rook with the score on 66 and 122 respectively offered some hope but
Linsley couldn't be budged. Rook struck again with the reply on 157 but
that was about as good as it got as Linsley completed his one man show
century before Greg Drewery finally dismissed him with only 4 required
for victory.
As
the D:Ream song says 'things can only get better', hopefully starting at
Beverley this weekend. Last week's match ball was kindly sponsored by M
W Windows and the previous week's ball sponsorship was courtesy of
Bengal Brasserie.
