Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park 1st XI entertained local
rivals Pocklington 1st XI last Saturday with both sides
seeking a positive result to kick start their seasons.
Pocklington openers Ted Donkin and Ian Camwell produced a solid if
unspectacular start until Dazzler Moody bowled Donkin for 26. Neal
Jackson and Camwell added 33 before the Ginger One took the catch to end
the latter's knock on 29. The Ginger One's introduction to the bowling
attack produced instant dividends as he bowled Jackson for 14 with his
first delivery and, in tandem with skipper Charlie Rook, he never
allowed the visitors to get a foot hold in the game despite 7 batsmen
reaching double figures. The Park's answer to Derek Randall, Neil
Stephenson, was in the action again to dismiss Andy Inns (24) with a
direct throw run out, contributing to the dismissal of the visitors for
169, skipper Alex Downey contributing 25. Tissiman produced his best
spell of the season taking 5-41 with Rook chipping in with 3-53.
The
Park's reply immediately faultered as Greg Drewery and Neil Stephenson
fell cheaply to Josh Room and Alex Downey respectively. Rook and Sam
Medley repaired the damage with a 2nd wicket partnership of
73 as the opposition's team spirit waned until Greg Nesbitt skittled
Medley for 32. James Beevers (23 no) supported his skipper, who had a
ton in his sights, but Iain Jozefowicz put paid to that milestone,
dismissing Rook for a sound contribution of 78. Beevers stayed solid
and four consecutive boundaries from Tissiman coasted the Park over the
line in the 36th over.
The
victory lifts the Park to 8th in the division, 31 points
behind this week's opponents Whitkirk, in an up and down season which
will hopefully have more ups than downs in the future. The Paper Shop
kindly sponsored the match ball.
