On
Monday the Britcom sponsored 1st XI hosted another lower
table rival in Ripon who came out tops in the coin toss and elected to
field. The Park, strengthened by the return of Big Bird, Neil
Stephenson and skipper Charlie Rook, lost the services of Stephenson
early doors but Sam Medley produced his best form in a fine knock of 92,
initially supported by Big Bird (16) and then by youngster James Hanley
who batted well for 34. The 'Ginger One' (17 no) propped the remainder
of the innings as cheap wickets fell and at tea the score had curtailed
on 187-8, third change bowler Kettlewell taking the visitors' bowling
prize with 3-27.
The
'Ginger One' deputized for absentee Rich Foster to team up with Dazzler
Moody and, with the combo taking 4 wickets inside the first 11 overs,
the visitors were in peril at 20-4. Dazzler's third and one for skipper
Rook further enhanced the Park's chances of victory as Ripon subsided to
58-6. However veteran Peter Squires had other ideas and, with Pope
offering divine support, held the innings together. Stephen Croft's
dismissal of Pope (25) and Kettlewell in the same over rekindled hopes
of a points maximum but Sorby's 18 minute vigil without scoring a run
put paid to that as, despite Croft finally removing Squires for 48 in
the last over, the visitors survived. A fine effort from the Park in
the field with Tissiman conceding just 56 runs in his lengthy 21 over
spell.
With
two games remaining half the league is still battling to avoid
relegation. The Park entertain Whitkirk this weekend – maybe their best
players will be playing football! Thanks to match ball sponsor
Southgate Stores.
