After the previous week's wasted trip to rain drenched Osbaldwick the
Park's 1st XI faced the difficult task of overcoming league
leaders Sewerby last Saturday.
The
opportunity to bowl first in damp but drying conditions meant the flip
of a coin would prove decisive. So it was as the visiting skipper
struck the first blow, calling correctly, and consequently the Britcom
sponsored Park struggled to generate any momentum in bowler friendly
conditions. Skipper Charlie Rook battled valiantly for 33, Ben Lewis
made a start before being run out for 14 going for a third, the Ginger
One struck 4 boundaries in his 24 and Ian Hodson contributed 17 but the
bowlers held sway as, despite batting into the 44th over, the
Park could only muster 106.
The
Sewerby reply started much in the same vein as Rich Foster and Dazzler
Moody reduced the visitors to 25-3. However Russ Robinson failed to
read the 'it's difficult batting out there' script and merrily went on
his way, dominating the innings whilst surviving an LBW decision which
Sir Geoffery would've described as 'pretty plumb'. Rook's first over
was rewarded with the wicket of Artley but that was as good as it got as
Robinson checked in with 78 not out to cruise the seasiders to a 6
wicket victory.
A
result which appears worse on paper than it was on the day as luck and
favourable decisions were in short supply. The Park entertain 2nd
placed Bolton Percy this weekend whom they almost beat earlier in the
season and hope to go one better. Thanks to Henleys Nurseries for
sponsorship of the match ball.
