The
2nd XI's impressive start to the season proved to be no flash
in the pan as they travelled to Osbaldwick whose square and outfield had
been excellently prepared.
Skipper Jonathan Croft elected to field and his decision was rewarded
with early wickets for James Beevers and Jack Sowersby. The home side
recovered from these setbacks but change bowler Michael Drewery's
patience finally paid off as he removed Hammerton (20) Ridsdale (33) and
Baldwin for a duck whilst James Hanley bowled tidily at the other end
without any luck. Beevers returned to remove the dangerous Smith for 18
whilst Jack Sowersby mopped up the tail to leave Osbaldwick well short
of a challenging total, all out for 106. Young keeper Chris Mitchell
continued his good form with 2 catches behind the sticks.
Park
openers Drewery and Hanley showed maturity at the top of the reply in a
stand of 42 before the latter was caught for a fluent 23. Beevers (42
no) then dominated proceedings as he and Drewery (35 no) coasted the
Park to victory, Drewery finishing the contest in fine style with 3
consecutive boundaries.
Another 30 point haul for the youthful Red Lion sponsored seconds who
hope to continue their winning ways in a local derby at home to
Pocklington this week. Thanks to new match ball sponsor Market Weighton
Carpet Co and to Winn Tyres of Pocklington who sponsored the previous
week's ball.
