The
Park's 2nd XI consolidated their place at the head of
division 6 and completed a 'double header' of victories over Dringhouses
in an entertaining encounter.
Skipper Jonathan Croft's decision to insert the opposition was greeted
with a battery of boundaries as, despite wickets for Michael Drewery and
Ben Lewis, the hosts stood handily placed at drinks on 92-3. The
bowlers had to work hard to stem the flow of runs and Steve Dawson came
up trumps with the wicket of Patrick (46) courtesy of a sharp catch by
Sam Dodd. Dawson then trapped Owen LBW and ended Bews's belligerent
knock of 51 by taking a return catch. Despite chances going to ground
the Park stuck gamely to the task a faced the prospect of chasing down
193 at the tea interval.
Openers Lewis and Drewery matched the pace of the hosts but the loss of
the latter and Robertson with 27 on the board called for a rebuilding
job. Lewis and Sam Dodd added 57 before Sam departed for 20. Ben
reached a fluent half century but could add little more as the game
became evenly poised with the Park on 100-4. Skipper Croft chipped in
with 18 but it was allrounder Steve Dawson who saved the day, aided by
Tom Williamson and Henry Laverack at the death as Steve's unbeaten 62
saw the Red Lion sponsored Park home for the loss of 7 wickets.
The
match ball was kindly sponsored by S Huzzard & Sons. This weekend the
Park play host to New Earswick.
