The
Park's 2nd XI completed their championship winning season
with a 13th victory at the hands of New Earswick's second
string.
Having received the divisional trophy from league secretary Albert
Pattison before the game the Red Lion sponsored Park took first knock.
Tom Eagling departed early but Tim Stephenson and Steve Dawson (39) put
on 65 for the second wicket before Dawson was dispatched, swiftly
followed by Sam Dodd. Stephenson and Michael Drewery then took control
with both securing half centuries. Skipper Tom Williamson chipped in
with 11 as the Park totalled 208-8 at tea.
The
nine men of New Earswick, with the exception of opener Stuart Masheder,
had no answer to the Park's versatile bowling attack as wickets fell at
regular intervals. William Stephenson with 3-13 and Ben Shingles with
4-4 from just 4 overs ensured no batsmen reached double figures other
than Masheder who very creditably carried his bat for 54. The contest
was all over inside 29 overs as Earswick were dismissed for 80, leaving
plenty of time to celebrate.
Congratulations to skipper Jonathan Croft, vice captain Tom Williamson
and all the players who have represented the twos this season and
special thanks to umpire Nigel Botting and the scorers.
