The
Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI hosted local rivals Pocklington
hoping to make it three out of three wins.
Sam
Dodd made his 2011 bow, opening the innings with Michael Drewery, but
fell early to Nick Hill. Tom Williamson (11) and skipper Jonathan Croft
(18) supported Drewery but the Park's attack failed to dominate as Robin
Miller and Craven, together with some injudicious shot selection and
tenacious fielding from the visitors, kept the scoreboard in check.
Drewery (28) and a resolute 38 from stand out batsmen Steve Dawson were
the chief contributors as the Park stuttered to 146 all out from just
32.5 overs.
Potentially on the back foot for the first time this season and having
offered the visitors 57 overs to achieve their target the Park needed to
respond. Who better to return to than senior pro Robbie Sawyer. After
a steady start from Baty and Attwood the Robster hit his straps,
removing both openers and No. 3 Bold for a duck. Michael Drewery joined
the in the party to reduce Pocklington to 35 for 6. A fine debut with
the ball from U13 player Joe Shingles (2-12) put the Park in control
despite a late show from No. 9 Sam Parkinson who thumped 10 boundaries
in a fine knock of 49 before a well judged catch by Henry Laverack in
the deep off Liam Barlow's bowling brought Parkinson's show to a halt as
Pocklington were dismissed for 103.
The
2nd XI now sit proudly at the top of Division 6 and look
forward to continuing their winning ways at Cawood this weekend.
Michael Roe Engineers were the kind sponsors of the match winning ball.
