The
Park's 2nd XI moved to within one point of being crowned
champions of division 6 following their fixture against Thorpe Arch and
Boston Spa's second string which proved to be a significant milestone
for Tom Eagling as well as for the Red Lion sponsored team which secured
promotion.
Skipper Jonathan Croft lost the toss as usual, resulting in the
'formality' of the Park batting first. A brace of Toms, Eagling and
Noble, found the surroundings to their liking, posting a century
partnership before Noble just failed to record a deserved half century,
bowled for 46. Sam Dodd (26) and Eagling continued to dominate
proceedings, adding a further 66 for the 2nd wicket, Eagling
passing 50 in the process. Liam Barlow missed out on the run spree but
partnered Tom to his maiden century off just 98 balls. TABS continued
to haemorrhage runs at an alarming rate as Michael Drewery (41 no)
maintained the momentum in an unbroken stand of 117 with Tom whose
straight hitting included one that cleared the boundary rope and a
rather large detached house before landing somewhere near Tadcaster.
His magnificent undefeated 173, which included 17 fours and 8 sixes, was
the 2nd highest individual score in the league this season
and a club record. The Park's total of 321-3 was also the 2nd
highest team total this season in the league.
The
TABS batsmen, content on survival, found scoring difficult as openers
Michael Drewery and left armer Joe Shingles gave little away. The
introduction of Yogi Youngman's swingers then created action in the
wickets column whilst Liam Barlow removed opener Joe Atkinson (31),
caught by Tom Noble. Williams chipped in with a flurry of boundaries
but the skipper's 13th catch of the season ended his cameo on
19. Foulkes held the innings together with 44 until Tom Williamson
trapped him LBW to set up the Park's 13th potential victory
of the season, requiring 2 wickets off the last over. However they
could only manage a run out off the last ball and had to be content with
27 points. As well as Eagling's momentous knock, Yogi excelled with the
ball, taking 6-41 and the Park produced another excellent fielding
display, epitomized by debutant Ben Shingles.
Londesborough Park 2nd XI 321-3 (T Eagling 173 no, T Noble
46, M Drewery 41 no, S Dodd 26) TABS 2nd XI 124-9 (B Foulkes
44, J Atkinson 31, P Youngman 6-41)
