The
Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI came up against a determined Welton
& Brough 2nd string and had to settle for the rarity of a
draw.
Batting first the home side's top three contributed 118, lead by Matt
Quaife with 61 and supported by Steve Bedford (33) and Dave Fairbank
(24). At 144-3 a sizable total looked on the cards until vice captain
Tom Williamson took over bowling duties and whipped out the middle order
in a productive 11 over spell of 4-50. Welton closed on a sporting
197-7 prior to nosebag.
In
reply the Park found themselves in unfamiliar territory with the top 4
all back in the hutch including Tom Eagling (not Eaglan as reported last
week) who fell just 167 runs shy of his previous week's score) with a
mere 40 runs accumulated. Normal order was resumed as Michael Drewery
and James Beevers combined to produce a healthy stand of 94 before
Drewery was bowled for an excellent 75. Steve Dawson kept Beevers
company with 22, leaving a further 33 required for victory. However 2
quick wickets, including Beevers for 37, left skipper Jonathan Croft and
William Stephenson too much to do and they settled for the draw, the
Park closing on 180-8. Quaife completed a good day with 4-33.
